Saving to Memory Stick

I have a Dell 4700. I am trying to save my files from the hardrive (C) to
the USB Memory Stick (E.) It will do this for a while and then up pops :
"The directory or file cannot be created." The Memory stick is a 256 and
is less than 1 percent used. I tried a new stick and same thing - saves for
a while then...."Word cannot complete save due to file permission error."
Does anyone know what is going on?

Did you try using a different USB port?
Or transferring a different file? Make a simple .txt document and try
that.
