Saving text to Wordpad

This is very basic I suppose, but here is something I
THINK I have noticed as a difference between '95 and XP.
Those are the two I've used: with '95, I was able to save
the AOL emails that I wanted to keep by pasting them into
Wordpad. I would paste a long series of emails into one
file, and it was very convenient, much more so than having
them stuck individually in AOL's filing cabinet.

I haven't used Word, and for my letter writing, Wordpad
has been just fine. However, whereas in '95 the whole AOL
letter would save as I had copied it, header and all ...
in XP using Wordpad, oftentimes the text won't paste (same
thing sometimes if pasting something taken from a
webpage.) I don't know the difference between the four
choices in the dropdown menu, but I suppose 'Rich Text
Format' is the one to use. Anyhow, does anyone know of
there being some sort of difference in Wordpad's ability
to 'save' between '95 and XP. A minor thing, but it has
been annoying. Thanks for your time.

Not really. It's all a matter of how you do it. In this
case you would be better off using clipboard if you want
to save the entire visible window. Unfortunately clipboard
is rather difficult to get at in XP. You will find
the .exe for it in the windows\system32 folder. If you
don't see the system32 folder you will need to go into
your folder options\view tab in the control panel and
enable the "show hidden and system folders". Once you find
the clipbrd you can right click on it and then click
create shortcut and then drag and drop this to the desktop
or to your start button and you will now have the
clipboard available to use. Then when you have your letter
open you click the Prt Scr button on your keyboard(usually
somewhere to the top right) and then click on your new
shortcut to clipbrd and when it opens you will see the
entire window you just copied. Now you can click file\save
as and browse to where you want to save it. Have fun.
