Saving pages x-y to a separate file

Is there a way to save a specific page or multiple pages to a separate file
other than copy/paste (which often messes up these forms)?

If copy/paste doesn't work for you, then no.
A 'page' in Word is a transient entity defined by the printer driver and
formatting and has several independent layers including text, header/footer
and drawings. They do not act in concert, so limit what you can do.

If you want to preserve all the formatting, the easiest thing is to Save As
to save a copy of the document, then delete the unwanted pages. If you need
to preserve page numbering, you'll have to set the starting page number.
