What is the easiest way to insert a scanned signature into a word document
at a specific point?

Using word 2000, XP and 2003

has ever managed to duplicate the exact circumstances under which it
happened, and many people have ended up looking very silly, or dead, or
both, trying."

Make the picture into an AutoText entry. Give the entry a name in which at
least the first four characters are unique among all AutoText entries you
have, and make sure the AutoComplete option is checked in Insert > AutoText
AutoText.

After that, all you need to do is put the cursor where you want the
signature, type the first four characters, and press Enter.

There are various "Font Generator" programs out there (in the ether) that
will make your signature into a truetype font. Then when you want to insert
it into a doc, you just choose that font, and the specific key for your
signature, and type it in. As a font. Not as a picture.

Hi Rob

I never thought much of the signature-font idea. It works great as long as
you're writing documents to be used only on your PC to view or print. But if
you send that document to someone else, their Word will substitute some
other font, and your signature will appear as one character in that font.
The alternative is to embed your signature font in the documents you send
out, but (a) that bloats the file size and (b) the recipient now has your
signature to use as they like, unless you've set the embedding properties to
"Print & Preview".
