Sent messages no longer save to sent items folder

On Sunday our Outlook 2000 client stopped saving messages to the sent items
folder. I unset and reset the option but it still will not save to the sent
items folder. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How many items does the Sent Items folder contain?

Problem solved.... the system clock lost a year somehow so the sent items
were hiding in the depths of the folder. I scanned the system for a
virus/other nasty to see what caused the jump but didn't turn up anything.

Very very strange.
