saving overwritten file

The computer crashed and when it was rebooted there was a
message about saving files that had been interrupted from
the crash. Unfortunately, file A was saved to the wrong
name causing an important file to be overwritten. (No,
there are no recent backups. Don't ask.) We have
searched through the temp files and the recycle bin but
cannot find any fairly recent versions of this important
file. Does anyone have any ideas of what else can be
done to resurrect this file? Thanks in advance.

It's probably gone since it was overwritten. Data that has been deleted
can usually be saved if it hasn't been overwritten, but that does not
sound like your situation. If it is important, call Drive Savers
(www.drivesavers.com), a professional data recovery firm highly
regarded in the tech industry. They are not inexpensive, but only you
can determine how much your data is worth. At the very least, they'll
be able to tell you the chances of recovery.
