Saving Outlook Folders

B

Bob Phillips

Hi,

I need to rebuild my laptop, so I want to backup my email folders before
doing so. If I right-click on the folder, it says the folder is stored in

C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst

However, when I look in that directory, there is no such file. I can't find
any .pst files, even though I have thousands of saved emails. What is going
on, where is it?

Also, where are the calendar, contact and task folders saved?

Finally, on http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm it talks
about relocating the My Documents folder on another drive. Good idea, but it
talks about a tab called target when you right-click on the Desktop and
select Properties. I don't have such a tab. Again, can anyone shed any light
on this?

I always do, I never hide system files, or known file extensions. I actually
looked in the wrong directory, omitting Local Settings, and had forgotten
that Search defaulted to hiding files. Found them now, thanks.

Any suggestions on my other questions?

Bob

All Outlook data is in one PST file. If it is not, have not found the right
file.

Are you asking me how to relocate My Documents?
No idea. That has nothing to do with Outlook. I agree with the instructions
you've read. Make sure you have set the target correctly in the Properties
of the folder.

Moving the file is easy. Re-directing Outlook isn't as easy because the file
path is read-only in Properties so I can't change it.
