saving on going MM projects

Several times, when I have saved an on going Movie Maker project (.mswmm)
upon opening it to work on it again, it has been lost. The project opens all
right but all frames have red X’s –no pictures or video. Now I have a
completed project that did the same thing but with transitions and titles
still in place. Any thoughts on how I can solve this problem and retrieve
these projects?

red x's are due to files being moved or deleted, so if a picture you
inserted into your movie ha a red x now, you have either deleted that
picture from your hard drive, removed the cd it was on, moved it to another
folder on the hard drive or on restart your pc has renamed your hard drives.

You should be able to right click the picture and tell MM where to find the
file, so long as it isn't deleted.

This would usually occur if the source files
were moved or deleted. (reason being...the
..mswmm file does not include the source files).

Usually, if you right click the Red Xs you can
browse to the location of the source files and
the link will be restored.

Thanks for your answer. It makes sense, but I have 200 or 300 pictures that
are now red X's. Do I have to browse for each one? I saved the movie to a
cd. Can I restart or reinsert the cd? Will that allow me to get the
pictures back into the movie? (I need to delete and add some pictures?
Thanks, Liz M

I guess I would have to say...why not simply
try it and see what you can find?

If you open your .mswmm project file in
Movie Maker and see red Xs...you may
be able to find the images by right clicking
the Xs and browsing. If you do not find the
images you will have to start over.

The point is...the .mswmm project file does
not include the source files. It only records
the path to the location they are in when the
project is made. So...if the communication
is lost between the project file and the source
files you have to re-establish it.

I guess the Movie on the CD is in the .wmv or
..avi format and it has no relation to the .mswmm
project file.
