Saving Office Files to Outlook / Exchange

Is there a method to save a file to Outlook folders directly from the
application i.e. Word? If I find a solution to this, I could significantly
increase the use of Outlook / Exchange at my clients and potential clients.
The method should work like "Save As" - save the file and allow continued
editing of the saved file. The "Send To Outlook Folder" is not sufficient
since it does not continue to edit the file at the new location. The method
must support saving a file to Outlook when it is offline - not connected to
Exchange.

Wow, what an interesting question. You can certainly "edit" Office files
that are in an Outlook/Exchange folder (or any file for that matter since
Outlook folders can hold any filetype as-is.... not just MailItems)......
BUT, your problem is finding an easy or automated (or at least intuitive)
way of getting the file into the Outlook folder in the first place. Do I
understand that correctly?.....

I think the only way to do this is by creating a Macro (I think).... So the
answer is No- unless you're a developer and have experience with the Outlook
and Office Apps COM object models.

The macro could be added as a button on the Outlook toolbar labeled "Create
New Office Document..." (very easy to do). It (the macro) would create a new
document and put it in an Outlook folder for you and then "open" it. Once
that happens any changes the user makes are saved directly in the Outlook
folder. This is very easy stuff (hard part is deploying it to a bunch of
users).

Alternatively (and this is easier come to think of it) the Macro could be
added to Word... as a toolbar button "Move to Outlook/Exchange..."
