saving images

I occasionally use images from some free graphics sites
on the internet. However, the last two times I have
tried to download images, Explorer has converted them all
to bmp file type. It is the only option I am given for
saving a file. With some it is not a big problem, but if
it is an animated gif, I lose the animation. Another
possible clue as to what is wrong, is that in the past,
when I saved an image, its original name would show up in
the "save as" window. But now, that space is blank.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Try to clear the Temporary Internet Files folder. In addition this MS KB
