Clear out your TIF folder.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>General.

Hi there
thankyou for your quick response but sadly enough it has made no difference
to saving an image.
I sure hope someone can eventually give me a clue to what is wrong
thanks once again

Hi John
Thanks for your reply
I have tried the suggestions, but without success again
There were no damaged program files appearing in the Tools/Internet
Options/General/TIF/Settings/View Objects. All indicated as installed.
And the other suggestion was problems if you use AOL. Well I dont use it so
now I am at a total loss.
Oh well maybe someone else will come up with something
thanks once again

Yes I use AOL . The reference to AOL is because AOL by default is set to
compress graphics which can result in the problem you are having.with
images.

Try Cache Sentry it helps with some bugs in IE's cache

You can see an overview of the program here

I have used this program for about a 18 Months and it seems to be taking
care of the issue.

To grissy : I am having the exact same problem saving images . Suddenly I can
only save images as Bitmap ; no JPEG capacity at all . Your pictures files
are somehow going not just into pictures , but if you will look , they are
also going into display and desktop pictures in the control panel . I am now
on my 4th computer in 4 weeks .....DO NOT USE TECH SUPPORT to make any
changes to your computer , all of the fixes they have given out have resulted
in a failure in system 32 that cannot be repaired . The folowing are fixes I
have been instructed to do : System restore , system reconfigure , restore to
an earlier time , expand memory , delete unused files , restore using
original CDs . I have tried these repairs on 2 compaqs and one hp and it made
all 3 computers useless . You should notice that your computer will slow down
, will freeze up , old apple programs may show up , and images will all be
saved as Bitmap only . I have spent over 200 hours trying to do fixes in the
past 4 weeks without any success . I am trying to contact Microsoft in
Washington state via mail ; the address I have is : Microsoft , Attention
Steven Snosky , Corp. V. P. Microsoft , Seattle Washington , ZIP 98052 . Note
, I am not sure of Seattle as the town , Microsoft is located in at the old
Presido marine corp base , contact your local post office as to the exact
town using the zip . I have come up with only a partial solution . I save
only about 10 images to a temporary folder in pictures , copy them to a CD ,
then delete the images . When I delete them from a picture file , they are
also removed from the the desktop display listing . It seems to be working so
far . Also check in your video or music downloads , I have been clicking on
save and getting the same material duplicated 2-3-ad 4 times in my library .
I have the feeling that the problem that is causing the Bitmap image problem
is also causing files to be duplicated in any downloads . I repeat : Unless
your coputer is under full warranty ; which is usually only 2 weeks after
purchase ; or unless you purchase insurance ; I purchased mine through my
local office depot for 3 yrs. full coverage ; DO NOT USE THE REPAIR
SUGGESTIONS OF ANY TECH SUPPORT SPECALISTS , they have only made my operating
systems worse to the point of making 3 computers useless . CONTACT MICROSOFT
at the address I provided , this is not just your problem , I am having the
same exact problem , it is some kind of glitch in the software that is not
even diagnosed yet . I even went to the trouble and expense of changing
servers , modems , rewiring nothing seems to help except for limiting picture
files to about 10 pictures , copying them tp a CD , delete the pictures , and
then check to make sure they went out of display desktop .

Attention brissy :
I am having the same problem that you describe . DO NOT attempt to restore
either to an earlier date or using a restore CD . DO NOT attempt to expand
files or delete files . DO NOT use AOL repair . DO NOT use F2 to open a
repair . Your images are being duplicated in files other than pictures ; go
into display in your control panel and check to see if images have been
downloaded to desktop picture selection . If you find an image there or in
any other files other than in the picture file where you downloaded it , then
you are having the same problem I am experiencing . I am on my 4th computer
in 4 weeks , all the fixes and repairs that the Compaq / HP / and Microsoft
techs have done is to somehow damage system 32 ; slowing down functions ,
freezing screens , sometimes allowing old apple programs to appear , and
ALWAYS saving images as Bitmap only . The problem is with windows XP ; I have
had 2 Compaqs , 1 HP , and I am now on a Toshiba ; and all 4 computers are
having the same malfunction in image saving . The only solution I have for
now is to download only a few images at a time in a temporary folder ( I have
been downloading 10 to 15 ) , copy them to a CD , and then delete the images
in the temporary folder . After I delete the images out of my temporary
folder in pictures , they also seem to delete from desktop images in display
.. Check to see if you are having duplication of downloads form CDs or the web
in your video library also , I have had the same video download appear in my
library 3 and 4 times ; delete all but one . As of this time , I have found
no one who knows exactly what the glitch in windows XP is that is causing
downloads to duplicate in files where they have not been directed to do so ,
much less the necessary repair that will remedy the problem . I have spent
over 200 hours doing repairs that have ruined 3 computers , avoid these
repairs that are suggected by tech support , they only made my problem worse
.. Try my temporary solution until you find the exact soluton to the problem .
I have the name and address of the person at Microsoft you can write to , be
sure to describe all symptoms and any repairs that you may have already done
, the model of your computer , the place of purchase , and the date of
purchase so that they can tract the problem . I think the problem goes back
about 2 or 3 years ago when Microsoft made a change that removed some
functions from XP 2003 edition in order to allow faster function and
increased memory capacity , I had an error system 32 appear in a black run
box on one Compaq prior to a total malfunction . The name and address is ;
