saving images as JPEG instead of bitmap

Internet Explorer Saves Images As Bitmaps (.bmp Files)

Delete your Internet Temporary Files and you'll gain the save as jpeg format
again.

is there any way that i can save an image as a jpeg file
instead of a bitmap file..when i right click on an image
and hit save as, the window that appeares will only save
as bitmap...with untitled in the window...which means that
i have to rewrite the name by hand...i used to be able to
save images in the jpeg format but i dont know how to get
back to it...thanks for any help
