Saving Favorites

W

Wonder

How do I save my list of Favorites before I re-install IE
6.0 upgrade? Outlook Express is not working, so I guess
the only way is to re-install the whole IE and it will fix
the problem. I don't want to lose my Favorites.
Thanks

Hi,

Do this: File, Import and export. From there, you can export your favorites
in one single BOOKMARK.HTM file. Or you can copy the content (not the folder
itself!) of your Favorites folder (c:\documents and
settings\<username>\favorites).

But it might be a good idea to find out exactly what is wrong with your OE.
What happens?

Kind regards

Hi,

I would prefer the 2nd method from Hans Le Roy. As far as I've seen, exporting the favorites to bookmark.htm may cause problems while re-importing, due to versioning issues. Copying the Favorites folder [URL files are the actual internet shortcuts] would be reliable.

Thanks Hans
I don't have a folder called c:\documents and settings. Maybe I deleted it long ago if it was empty. So where is the info now? It's not in the folder of IE in c:\Programs, or the Identities folder in Windows.

Your second question is: what happened to OE! It obstinately "cannot find MSOERES.DLL" even though it IS there in plain sight for us mortals. I have copied it, reinstalled it, did everything, it still refuses to see this file. For some reason it is blind, and I cannot fix it. Hopefully reinstalling the whole IE would make OE see the file.

documents and settings - applies for Windows 2000/XP.

If you have Win9x, search for favorites folder. Usually in C:\Windows\Favorites unless profiles is enabled.

Thanks Ramesh,
I found it.
Now, can you solve my second problem, i.e. how to get OE up and running. Is there a complete independent install for this, or does it have to be a part of IE? Why can't it find the MSoeres.dll file when it is just sitting there? Then it says it cannot initialize msoe.dll. What does it mean to "initialize" and how do I get it to do that? I am apprehensive about complete re-installing anything unless I really have to.

For Win98

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab.
Click to clear the Outlook Express check box, and then click OK.
After the "Updating System Settings" dialog box is displayed, click to select the Outlook Express check box.
Click OK, and then click OK.

If this does not help, try posting this in OE newsgroups.

provides a friend interface to easily add ,edit, view and annotate
