I am currently using microsoft word 2000 and would like to change to a new
processor, wordperfect office 12 by Corel. Would I be able to keep my saved
documents that I have in word 2000 to use for the wordperfect? The people at
corel told me to check with you guys here at microsoft about this situation.
Thank You Very Much

It seems to me that the best thing to do is to try to open some of your
Word-documents in WP and see what happens: Are outlines, comments and
highlights preserved? Do footnotes look OK? Are there workable ways to fix
things that doesn't look quite OK? Etc. Somewhere in the help-file of WP
there is also a table showing what gets converted and what doesn't.

I sometimes have to use WordPerfect and go back and forth between that and
Word. Unfortunately, my experience as sort of an intermediate user is that
you can go back and forth between them, but any formatting beyond the really
simple will be a reach. Some years ago we went from Word Perfect 5.1 (DOS),
which was nearly bullet-proof, to Word, which is not. Some of the documents
we use today were originally set up in WordPerfect. There are a few minor
issues but no serious problems I can think of.
