If want to save an attachment, or anything for that matter, when I click on
Save as: the box that appears comes up with Icons down the left hand side
where it thinks are the most likely places to save. That is My Recent
Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer and My Network Places. Most of
these are not where I will save anything let alone my attachments. How can I
change these options for good and also how can I make the default pane in the
main panel the place I am most likely to save something of my choice instead
of a folder that seems to save temporary files that I have not made nor know
where it is?
Thanks
Charlie

You can't change what's already there (AFAIK) but you can add your own
places to the panel.
In the "Save As" dialog box, click on Tools-Add to Favorites and the folder
you are currently in will be added to the panel.

BTW - why is "My Documents" a place you wouldn't want to save any
attachments to?

Thanks for that Gordon, I can add mine and move the others down out of sight.
My Documents and Desktop are the only two that were any use but now I can add
my favourite folders. Thanks

These can be changed. You can only have five but you can modify what's
there. It's called the Places Bar in the common dialogs box. The
easiest way to edit these is to download and run TweakUI, one of the MS
powertools. Download tweakui.exe from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once installed you'll find it under Start | All Programs | Powertoys for
WinowsXP. Run it and expand the Common Dialogs section, click on Places
Bar, Custom places bar. Edit by using the drop down menu or type in a
path to whatever folder you want.
