Press Alt+F9 to display field codes. In the date field, change DATE or TIME
to CREATEDATE. Then Alt+F9 to toggle back and F9 to update. To prevent this
problem in the future, change the DATE field in your letter template to a
CREATEDATE field.
If you are using the Insert | Date and Time dialog, be sure that the box for
"Update automatically" is not checked. And be aware that both the
Alt+Shift+D shortcut and the Insert Date button on the Header and Footer
toolbar insert a DATE field, not date text.
