How to preserve original document date in opening word file

Lyse

When I open a letter created using Word 2003 on an earlier date I would like
the date displayed to be the original creation date and NOT today's date. How
can I do this?

Press Alt+F9 to display the field code. Edit DATE to CREATEDATE and press
Alt+F9 to toggle back and F9 to update.

Right-click the date and choose Toggle Field Codes. You'll see something
like { DATE \@ "MMMM d, yyyy" }. Change DATE to CREATEDATE. Right-click
again and choose Update Field.

If you use a template to create letters like this, make the same change in
the template so future letters won't have to be altered. If you're just
using the Insert > Date and Time dialog in a plain document, don't do
that -- instead, use the Insert > Field dialog and choose the CreateDate
field.
