saved favorite always seems corrupted

Hi Brad,

Compare the File extension association for .url files (Internet Shortcuts)
between the machine that isn't working and one that does.

My settings for XP-IE7 are

Application used to perform action:
rundll32.exe ieframe.dll,OpenURL %l

Use DDE - checked

Application:
ieframe

Topic:
System

They may be different for an XP-IE6 machine.

Regards.

We have a business/secured web site we log into. If I run it from a
'favorite' it won't log-in properly I get a 'security portal' error but if I
manually type the web url in we get in OK. This happens on one PC only.
WinXPsp2 IE6 (downgraded from IE7 because of this problem). We've deleted
the old favorite and added the new one, after logged in, and it still will
not get us in.

Why would a favorite 'not' let us in or get us in if you can manually type
the url and get in OK. I was thinking cookie settings or something on
privacy or security settings but then I shouldn't get in manually either
should I? We even deleted the old/non-working favorite, defraged the drive
then resaved the favorite and that didn't work either.

Another twist to this is when at the 'security portal' error if I click the
favorite one more time it lets me in the rest of the way. Any suggestions? .

This is the only favorite that seems to be having a problem on this machine.
No other machines have this problem on the same network. (static IPs)

Thanks Rob,

But where am I doing this from? or where do I go to look at those settings?

I've got IE6 on Win2000 and the other is IE6 on WinXP.

Thanks

Rob,

OK, I just didn't go far enough into the settings.

You actually have to go into "Advanced", hi-lite "open" and click "edit" to
be able to see the settings or information you were referencing.

Thank you for your help. That gives me another place to look for
differences.

We did manage to get it to work but we had to use the "bookmark this page"
from the website we were accessing. It just wouldn't work going to
'favorites' and clicking 'add'.

Again, Thanks for the advice. I'm still going to check the settings on a
couple of machines.

That sequence could be the cause of your symptom.
E.g. if the site is redirecting "after logged in" the URL in the Favorite
will not be the same as the URL you entered by typing.

Recreate the Favorites with the URL you use *before* logging in.

Good luck
