Save feature in Word is making me crazy

I have a computer at work where, whenever I want to save a new document, and
press on Save As, it gives me the name of a file that I created some years
ago. In fact, it has a drop down menu that contains several old names of
documents. On my home computer, when I click on Save As, it shows me a blanc
space where I can type in the name of my document. How can I revert to that
feature and where did I go wrong?

Thank you in advance.

I suspect you have the old filename saved as the Title field in the
Properties of Normal.dot. Anything that is saved as a template Title will be
offered as the document filename instead of the first few words of the
document. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm for
ways to remedy this.
