Save endnote numbering separate

I am preparing a book for publication and need to save the Endnotes separate
from the numbered chapters. I can copy and paste the endnotes into a
separate document, but then I have to renumber them, using section breaks to
restart numbering.

However, I need to be able to save the chapters with the superscripted
endnote numbers intact. Can anyone help me do this without having to jump
through the text and insert the numbers manually?
