"save" didn't work

When I saved my PPT file, which I do regularly, I noted that some of
the changes I had made didn't get saved. Some formatting, additions of
text to bulleted items, etc.
Since then I've been using "save as" and overwriting the file. Usually
if you just "save", I thought Windows (XP) overwrites the file you are
working on automatically. Does PPT not do this?

Thanks.

1) The 'save' probably did work, but some auto-formatting was re-applied on
re-open. Check that the auto-formatting options are disabled. Tools =>
Auto Correct ... => Auto Format As You Type => de-check the bottom 3
options.

2) PowerPoint uses 2 save methods: full save and fast save (AKA disk hog).
The fast saves method just appends the changes to the end of the ppt file,
which sounds good, but often isn't. It makes files much larger and
therefore slower/more corruptible/wasteful. I'd strongly recommend that you
turn off the Fast Saves option. Tools => Options => Save => de-check Fast
Saves.
