"save as" feature

If I'm using an invoice from another time and I try to use the "save as"
feature my screen freezes and I have to shut Word totally down and start over
again. I notice there is always a file with ' $ in front of the file's name
I'm trying to save. This happens about 50% of the time I use Word. The
other 50% it's fine. Help.

Do you have Norton Security Suite installed? It has an option called
"Office Plugin". Try disabling that plugin and see what happens.

P.S. Word problems should be taken to special groups, such as:
microsoft.public.word.newusers
