Save as disappeared from drop-down File list

The Save as option has disappeared from a colleague's drop-down File list. It
lists only Save and Save as web page. I got around it by adding the icon to
the toolbar, but cannot figure out why that happened. He's using Windows 2002
on XP Windows.

Has this happened to anyone?

Thanks,
Suroor

It can happen quite easily by accident. If you press Ctrl+Alt+[dash on top
row], Word's pointer becomes a heavy black dash. The very next menu item
you click on gets removed from the menu.

This is meant to be a convenience, e.g., for removing files from the recent
files list. However, many folks inadvertently activate this "remove menu
shortcut "features whilst searching for some dash or hyphen variation. They
press the dreaded key combo, don't get what they want, don't notice the
heavy black dash, and then click some menu item, and presto!

And because they're looking for a dash (for which the keyboard shortcut is
Ctrl+Alt+NumMinus), the next menu item clicked is often Insert | Symbol,
hence the explanation at http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/LostSymbol.htm
