This is probably a simple problem to solve, but it has me completely
baffled.

I am running Windows XP, with SP2, on an HP Pavilion ze5170 laptop.

Whenever I try to save a file, the Save As dialogue box appears with the
folders listed in order of most recently used, not in alphabetical order. I
have to change the listing order because it's easier for me to scan
alphabetically. This is getting very irritating.

Does anyone know how to change the default for this, so I can have the
listings pop up in alphabetical order?

Many thanks.

Open a Folder window (like my documents), sort how you want, Press Control while clicking the X on titlebar. Your dialogs will now take this sort.

Every program where I can save files: Internet Explorer mainly, but also
Word, Notepad, Wordpad.

Open a "Save As" dialog box and set it to alphabetical listing or
however you want.

Hold down the CTRL key then click on the "Close" icon in top right
corner of the dialog box.

Possible to change the path? On my XP Pro, it always openes my
documents.

Tried that, but it didn't work.
