File order in Open

Whenever I use the open command in ANY application, and the Open file browser pops up, the files are ordered in reverse alphabetical order, using the thumbnail view. The view I have no problem with, but the order is getting irritating. Until about a week ago, the files/folders would appear in ALPHABETICAL order, and without me changing anything (knowingly, anyway), they now appear in REVERSE ALPHABETICAL order. I'd like to be able to set it back the way it was, but when i right click in the part of the open window where the files are and choose to arrange by name, they go back to alphabetical order, but reverse themselves again when i next open the window. What i need is a permanent solution. Can anyone help me

Two things, by clicking on the column header it will toggle your file sort
by ascending or descending. Secondly, under folder options make sure you
have remember folder settings checked
