Order of files and folders in Word 2003 dialogue box

When opening a document in Word 2003 the list in the dialogue box is not in
alphabetical order, but randomised. It was always in order until 2 days ago
when it became jumbled. How can I sort the list?

Click on the Name tab, this will resort to filename alphabetised, two clicks
maybe needed to get the correct order (A-Z or Z-A).
This should be accepted from within the Word dialog as well as Windows
Explorer.
If this change does not stick, go to Folder Options, under Windows Explorer,
Tools, then the View tab, click on Apply to all Folders. The change should
now stick.
All the best.

It's not random, just in order by date or some other property. Right-click
on an empty area of the dialog and choose Arrange Icons By > Name.

Thank you, my annoying problem solved! It took me a while to find how to
sort the list as I was in a View which didn't show the "Name" tab. I did
this in Word, so no need to go to Windows Explorer.
