save as default file format

I realize that the question below has been answered in the negative.

"Can I change the default file format for saving messages?"

However, the Outlook Help file says it can be done and gives the following
instructions:

" you can change the default file format Outlook uses to save messages.
Click Advanced Options.
Click Other.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Select (e.g.) Use Unicode Message Format when saving messages checkbox."

The only problem is I can't find where "Advanced Options" is to click. Are
these instructions in error.

Thanks for any insight into these instructions;

You have the instructions backwards. It's Tools, Options, Other, Advanced and
check Save messages in Unicode format. That's the only choice.

It's not I who have the instructions backward but Outlook Help. I copied and
pasted the instructions as found there. I had done earlier what you suggested
and it does not give Unicode format as the default option. It leaves .htm as
the default. I guess my conclusion is: (i) the intructions found in Help are
incorrect; (ii) there isn't anyway to establish a default file type in "Save
As" other than .htm.

Thanks for your input. I needed some support to reach conclusion (i) and
stop wasting time with trying to follow the Help instructions.

This option simply means that when items are saved in the .msg format,
they'll be in Unicode.

The answer to your original question is still no.
