sata hard drive

Want to install Maxtor SATA hardrive on PC running XP Pro.
Have IDE hard drive already installed. Would like to
transfer everything from IDE hard drive to SATA drive and
then use IDE drive for additional storage. Do not want
to use Maxblaster software included with SATA hard drive.
Will XP recognize this new drive?

Not quite correct. That answer was valid for the first generation of "bolt
on" S-ATA controllers, but recent chipsets with integrated S-ATA
functionality (for example, the Intel ICH5 I/O controller) present the S-ATA
channels to the OS as a perfectly standard ATA port, meaning that the
built-in drivers can work. It's a different case if you enable RAID on the
above chipset, but for standard S-ATA it's simplicity itself to install.
The MaxBlast software, IIRC, is a DOS extender to allow older systems to see
the full capacity of the disk. At least, it was last time I encountered it;
it's possible that Maxtor are now offering some other functionality under
the MaxBlast name..
