SATA Drives clarification

I've bought a new rig with 2 SATA drives. I've noticed that both appear
on the tray's "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, same as if they were some
sort of removable storage. My IDE HDs on the older machine never
appeared there. Is this a normal occurrence with SATAs or have I got them
wrongly installed/config.

Sata drives, in some configs, are hot swapable.
If I connect a sata drive to my Nvidea controler, they appear as removable
devices.
