Sata drive now cd/dvd roms lock up

Ok I recently installed a Western Digital sata drive (Raptor 10,000rpm)
since then I have found that my cd and dvd rom drives will lock up. I
have genuine windows XP home.
I downloaded sissoftware sandra but it didn't help, mind you I didn't
understand any of it.
If anyone has any ideas I you love to hear them.

I have 2 SATA Raptor drives in a striped raid. They seem to work ok with my
LG DVD writer. Can you explain what you mean by "lock up" your optical
drives as I'm not sure quite what you mean. SATA drives come with a driver
which is not usually the case with PATA drives. My question is did you
install the forementioned driver?

WHAT DRIVER! I didn't get one. I bought it new from Ebuyer as it was a
good price £120 but was suprised that it didn't come in it's own
packageing and no instructions,looked up Western Digital but found no
mention of a driver. The drive it self works great but when I try to
run a disk in either of my cd or dvd rom it seams to lock the computer
up, the disk carries on spinning in the drive but my screen and mouse,
keyboard lock and I have to switch off the comp and the button.

Sorry I must have been half asleep when I said the Raptor should have a
driver. What I should have said is that the SATA controllers on the
motherboard need a driver. So the driver would have come on a CD with the
motherboard. Mine was supplied on a diskette labeled just SATA driver. Yours
may have been labeled something non-specific like chipset driver. The
manufacturers web site would be the place to check. Its worth getting the
driver because if you ever need to reinstall Windows you will need it.
Otherwise Windows will not see the SATA drive. Also because you need to
supply the driver it is useful to have it on diskette to pop into the A:
drive when Windows requests it.

PHEW!, You had me worried there but yes I got a disc with chipse
drivers with my motherboard. After installing xp I reinstalled all m
drivers but think I missed that one Thanks..
