SATA, cannot rip

Hi!

I have a prob here I wonder over. I have a Asus UDMA100 16x DVD connected to
the sata controller witha Abit Serielle 2 adapter. I can't rip either data
or or music from this drive.
My 40x Plextor CDRW is connected to the other SATA port in teh same way and
ripping from that works fine..

Anyone have a clue to why it's like this, surely you should be able to make
mp3:s from teh DVD drive??
Is it a SATA or Asus DVD related problem, anyone recognice it?

Best Wishes
Thomas

According to abit that adapter is for abit boards only AND
for ata100 HARD DRIVES(devices).
The promise PATA controller cards support atapi cd drives,
by the way why not just use the onboard parallel ide's?
ASUS does not make an ata 100 dvd, if it did it would be
advertised as a 64X DVD-rom.

No, you're reading on the Serielle Adapter, the Serielle 2 also handles
atapi (optical devices).

They are used already, also I had the burner/DVD keep dropping back to PIO
mode when I did that. Works much smother now on the SATA controller.

No, you're wrong again.. the x factor of the DVD have nothing to do with the
interface it uses and they DO make a 16x udma100 drive.. the DVD-E616 which
I have.

Thanks for trying to help, but before you diss me you should check that you
know what you're talking about.

My mistake, but isn't this the asus Motherboard group?

It shouldn't, mine don't in my 2 dvd boxes.
rip/burn mp3's at up to 40x(6meg/s), burn dvd's at 4x(5.5meg/s).

That doesn't make it an ata100 device! Just check properties and dma mode!
Enhanced IDE (ATAPI) bus interface supports ATA/100 (99.9 MB/s)
that's just burst from the cache, they all do that!
Thanks for trying to help, but before you diss me you should check that you
know what you're talking about.
BTW what mobo are you using and what do you have the serielle2
adapter connected to?
Man, I didn't really diss you!
Thanks for the introduction to abit serielle2 technology!
Again you might find more knowledgable people regarding this problem in an
Abit group.
Promise has it's own problems with atapi devices.

Yes, and the motherboard I'm using is the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe.
It shouldn't, mine don't in my 2 dvd boxes.
rip/burn mp3's at up to 40x(6meg/s), burn dvd's at 4x(5.5meg/s).

I know it shouldn't, but it does :/ Since I moved the drives to the sata
port they ahve worked flawlessly though, very fast and smooth (except for
the fact that I can't aextract data from the DVD that is).

Don't think I sais ATA100 either, I said UDMA100 (UDMA mode 5 on regular ide
controller), other connected optical devices sure doesn't get that.

Stated above, A7N8X-Deluxe, Rev 2.0

OK sorry, I overreacted a bit.

Well, as the DVD that giving me problem and the Mobo it's connected to is
Asus I thought this was the place to ask.
Promise has it's own problems with atapi devices.

It's just teh DVD that's giving me troubles, the Plextor CDRW connected in
exactly teh same way rips perfectly (It's just not as fast as the DVD).

Interesting, the ABIT sata/pata adapter is just for the Silicon Image® Sil
3112A Controller, but you are using it on an ASUS board.
Wonder if it's a firmware issue, I couldn't mate my Pioneer 105
dvd burner with a pioneer dvd-rom on the secondary ide controller
on my asus A7V mobo. Firmware clash? Be looking for new firmware for the
asus dvd-rom.
Sure it's not the software?
