SATA-150/II on a PATA System

Would anyone know how to use a SATA hard drive on a Ultra100 PATA system?

I'm considering a complete system upgrade in 4-6 months that will be SATA
I/II, however I have one (1) hard drive that I need to replace soon. No OS
on this drive, I store my personal files on this drive.

I realize there is an adder board (mounts on the back of the drive itself)
that will allow a PATA drive to coexist on a SATA system. And I realize I
can probably get a SATA controller board (PCI) to go in my current system
that will allow the SATA drive to coexist on a PATA IDE system.

I already have one Ultra100 IDE controller to support my four (4) existing
drives and my PCI slots are already full.

Do I have any other options?

Thanks for any help!

What are other PCI cards? For example, if you have USB 2 and
Firewire (IEEE 1394) PCI cards, you can replace both of them
with one USB2+FW combo:

BTW, there exists combo USB2+FW+SATA card:

or even USB2+FW+GigaLAN combo:

Another option: if you have PCI audio or PCI TV-Tuner or
PCI-Ethernet or PCI-modem cards,
you can replace them with USB external solutions:

Hello Roman,

yea... I was afraid of that. Having to buy/install something else (PCI
device) in order to use SATA on my existing system.

Thanks for all the ideas and links.
Thank-you for your time and effort as well...!

The holidays are coming up and I've already committed myself to the Dell 24"
wide screen flat panel monitor that will require a new (digital) video card
and some system memory to help things along.

Maybe I will migrate the data on my old PATA drive over to one of my newer
drives till I follow through with a full system upgrade.

I'll follow your recommended links tonight to see if something stirs my
interest tho.

I guess in the long run, a new SATA/USB2/? combo PCI board may come in handy
when I do upgrade.
Of the newer motherboards I see, most have four (4) SATA interfaces and one
(1) IDE PATA interface. The IDE will already be consumed by existing CD
drives. And I should be able to use my existing Ultra-100 PCI controller on
the new motherboard such that I can keep a few of my PATA drives for data
storage/backup.

Thanks again!

Best regards,
Richard in Va.
