Samsung ML-2010 power issue

Todd

Has anyone else had a problem with power interference on a Samsung
ML-2010 laser printer? My lights (on the same AC circuit) flicker for a
few seconds when the printer is first powered on, then flicker briefly
every 10 seconds or so afterwards. I have not found any information from
Samsung on the issue. This particular printer does not consume much
power in comparison to a floor standing printer/copier to be causing
such a problem. Any ideas?

I am printing from a p4 using Win 2K Pro (even though it shouldn't make
much difference since the issue happens even if the printer is not
connected to any system via USB cable).

Thanks in advance!

Hi!
Has anyone else had a problem with power interference on a Samsung
ML-2010 laser printer? My lights (on the same AC circuit) flicker for a

every 10 seconds or so afterwards.

What's happening here is the cycling of the fuser in the printer. The fuser
is a quartz lamp or heating element that melts the toner to the paper. It
has to stay at a constant temperature in order to work properly. It pulls a
lot of power, especially when first starting up. Even a small printer like
this may pull between 600~950 watts when the fuser is on.

The Samsung printers I'm familiar with have a timer that turns the fuser off
after a while. I think the default is ten minutes of inactivity. Look in the
properties sheet of the printer in the printers folder (under Windows) to
find the setting. I think it's on one of the rightmost tabs if memory
serves. If the value is too high, lower it. This will cause the fuser to
shut down sooner, and your lights should quit acting up more quickly.

Should the problem still bother you, the simplest fix is to move the printer
to a different circuit. If you still have problems then, your electrical
service should be checked as there might be a problem.

You can try to see when the printer is tuned on is the lamp in fuser on, or
is the fuser hot after 20-30 seconds after turning on. If the fuser is cold
you might have problem with power supply, or the thermo switch on fuser. If
you take fuser out you will see thermo switch (it is covered by plastic
cover) connected with wires. The thermo switch when is OK must be short
circued to allow wamring up lamp. I hope you understanded what I wrote, my
english is poor but i tryed my best
