I have a Samsung SV4002H 40 gig HD

XP will only see it as a PIO device no matter what jumper settings I use,
any one have a fix for this?

The drive is very slow.. :(

1. Are you sharing it with another drive on the same
channel? If sharing with a non-DMA drive the HDD cannot
use DMA.
2. In your BIOS settings is it set to 'Auto' for transfer
type? When the BIOS shows the drives on screen (press
pause/break to freeze it) is the drive detected as a UDMA
drive or just PIO? If the BIOS is not detecting a UDMA
drive then windows certainly will not...
 
Set the jumper to CABLE SELECT and make sure that you put it on the correct Interface Cable plug

The reason for it being slow, may be as a result of your using the wrong IDE cable [you need an ATA 100 cable] which should be identifiable via your BIOS messages. Elswise it could simply be due to the wrong jumper / cable position causing conflicts.
 
Drive is seen as ata100

is the slave to my DVD burner that is shown as multi word udma2
