If it opens during the POST screen, then it must be a hardware
problem. If it tries to close but opens again, then I'd say that the
tray is not hitting an end-of-travel limit switch, in which case the
drive's microprocessor would timeout and eject the tray. I'd look for
a dirty switch or a slipping rubber belt or dried grease on the rack.
If you hear motor noise when the tray is closed, then this would
suggest a belt or switch problem.
If disconnecting the ribbon cable from the rear of the drive stops it
from opening, then you have some obscure software problem.
