Samsung 2032MW Monitor playing tunes!

AC

Hi,

I have the above and it has a weird issue.

I have it plugged in to an amplifier via the head phone socket, and there is
an odd beepy tune coming out of it at a very low level. Its sounds like the
music you would get in a very early computer game.

I have isolated it to the monitor and nothing else. Its not the amp and its
not my laptop which the monitor is plugged in to. The "tune" is very low
level but its quite clear when there is no other sound or the input sound is
low level. Now I've noticed it, its incredibly annoying.

Has any one else experienced this? If so, what is it? Is it a fault or some
sort of weirdo carrier signal that normal but usually never heard.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Tell us more. Is it actually a 'tune' or just a series of beeps? Does it
still happen with all other equipment turned off (PC, wireless router,
speakers, desk lamp).

Its a series of beeps. Very random notes or tones. Its not like a simple
beep code being repeated. Its just random with no obvious patern. Its low is
on the monitor's speakers, but very obvious through an amp. Its clear well
about the hiss of high volume.

What I have just noticed, is that its audible with the vga lead in. The
earphone to monitor input is not plugged it. If I remove the vga it stops,
but the monitor seems to go in to a splash screen and all audio is cut, even
the back ground hiss. Implying its cut its audio circuits. So, I think its
still the monitor.

I've also set all the settings to default for luck, no change.

Any thoughts?

Try turning off the PC at the wall, so the base unit (that the monitor is
connected to) has no power at all. Even when turned off, the PC is 'live'
and uses power.

Whatever 'the above' or 'it' is, it might help to describe them.

I think you are missing something CB. 'above' is a "Samsung 2032MW Monitor".
'It' refers to the same.
No one else had any trouble!

Nothing of the sort in the message. Subjects are not necessarily

So what did you click on to open the short message? If your memory is really
so bad that you forget the subject by the time you read line 1 of the body,
then its time to upgrade your newsreader to one that shows you the message's
subject!

I have the same problem. I use the screen primarily as a second
monitor for my laptop computer (connected via VGA cable), and
sometimes as a TV (PIP is great). However I often hear an annoying
sound when the TV cable is connected. It stops when I disconnect the
TV cable.

So, for now, I just connect the TV cable when I want to watch the TV,
and disconnect it afterwards. If anyone would know how to stop this
sound, that would be great.

Thanks,

Joris

Hi AC

I searched for "samsung 2032MW sound problems" and yours was the 3rd item in the list. Awesome description.
I'll try to add my $0.02 and where possible I will avoid using it, but as it only appears in this sentence you can rest assured that no one will be confused!

Unpacked this morning, wired in video via scart => awful picture.
Took video out of loop and put kids computer game in directly via RCA on left hand side of monitor (as viewed from the front) => "crisp" poor picture [standard def generate images just looks awful on HD].
Put aerial cable in to back, tuned in [took a while to look thru the VHF :)] => acceptable picture. Acceptable volume from the speakers, no major distortion when turned right up.
Took DELL D620 and put VGA cable into back of Samsung monitor => AWESOME picture. So clear, so crisp. So easy to debug code with this much real estate.
Then I thought "odd ... I can hear my ears ringing". Nope, it's (it is not it!) "Computer Blues" from my Atari 8 bit days!
Or one of the GM Synth patches ... traced sound source to the samsung speakers. Definitely didnt do that until the VGA was
plugged in.
And as you turn the volume up, so the noise gets louder => for sure it's coming from the speakers when the VGA cable is plugged in.

So I read the manual, no mention of this "feature". I then plugged the 3.5mm jack into back of monitor and into PC line out.
So now the PC's sounds are transmitted to the samsung's speakers, and I can play MP3 and use the "music" enhancer ... but that now annoying "computer blues" beep is still present.

And anyone stumbling across these posts that has experienced it will be thinking "yeah AC/Steve ... but what's causing it!" (it being the annoying beeping noises just incase anyone else doesnt understand Queens English).

I will try the tip of unplugging TV inputs ... IE I will simply plug in the VGA with no other inputs to see what happens.
And I have borrowed a DVI cable just incase the noise is only generated by the VGA cable.
I do not have another VGA cable to hand just incase the one supplied is of poor design.

The poor standard def pictures I could almost forgive but the annoying beep [one solution is to turn the sound right down and play must through the PC which is possibly what I might do ... except part of the reason for buying this monitor is that it is more than just a monitor ... it is a monitor with analogue TV tuner {:-(} but that gives it additional connectivity {:)} AND it has speakers {:))}... speakers that can generate annoying random 'blues' music when a VGA cable is plugged in {:-o}]

If I find anythng else in my research I will repost it here.

Regards

Steve H

PS the poor standard def computer games images is solved by me using it as a computer, and little kids using it as a games monitor via PIP ... that is another plus point that stops this monitor taking a trip back up the Amazon.

OK update of findings.

Like Joris, I can confirm whenever there's a signal on the aerial cabe then this generates the random beep on the computer output. The workaround so far is to tune the TV into a blank channel.

Hallelujah! I'm so glad I found this forum as I was about to start pulling my hair out.

Just to recap, I was getting the exact same random beeping signal noises - very faint but very annoying once your ear tunes into them. I am using a DVI cable from an NVidia graphics card to my Samsung 2032MW monitor.

If i disconnected my DVI cable - noise gone, but so did display obviously. If i disconnect the tv aerial - noise gone, but I don't want to have to disconnect/reconnect it every time I want to watch tv.

Then shooking's post above ... it works! I just switched to tv, retuned the channel P1 manually to a black screen, and hey presto noise gone. Suits me as I don't need the tv source anyway as I have freeview on my EXT source. Oh thank god. Blissfull quiet. Thanks shooking!

Rgds Andy.
