Safely Remove Hardware popup causes wirelss card to turn off

When I insert my Linksys wireless card it lights up but
then turns off when the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon pops
up in the taskbar.
Anyone know how to stop this behavior?
 
I had a similar problem with PenDrive and it turned out that the PenDrive
was bad.
