I can't think why you would want to do that, Hank. It should only be there
when you're using removeable hardware and simply unplugging the item without
right clicking this little chap, is not recommended.

No apart from "Always Hide" option there is no other way to hide it.
Right -click the notification area, and select Properties. Under the
Notification area heading, click Customize. Find the Safely Remove
Hardware icon> choose Always hide in the Behavior column next to it >
OK and Apply .
