When I boot up in safe mode ( normal) I get my XP sign on screen. When I
move my mouse over to type my password, the mouse locks up. Even though the
password box has the curserin it, when I type my password, nothing happens.
The screen seems to lock up. I have tried to reboot several times in safe
mode, and this problem just recurs. PLease help!!

Thanks

You select "start windows in normal" start up....Why press F8 for safe mode
options if you start it in normal start up,why not just leave keyboard
alone and
let xp start regular....

I am sorry if you misinterpreted what I said. I am trying to start up the
machine in safe mode. There are several safe mode "options". I took the
safe mode that has no options in it. I assume that this is a "normal" safe
mode. In this safe mode an XP sign on window appears. That is when I get
the freeze up condition. Regardless, the reason I wrote this question is: I
am trying to log into the screen that comes up "after" I get in to safe mode.
Now read the rest of my original post to see if you or anyone can help me.

Thanks !

What type of mouse are you using? You might want to try a
different mouse, preferably one with a PS/2 connector. It
sounds as if the driver for your mouse is not loaded in Safe
Mode. The same may also apply to your keyboard.

Good luck
