Safe Mode "shuffles" desktop

Is there any way to "lock" the desktop?
Mine is heavily "customized" with shortcuts grouped by various categories/projects etc.
Whenever I boot in safe mode (for whatever reason) and then go back my desktop has been
"re-organized". Not only are the icons re-arranged but some don't display. They are still
there because when I re-establish these missing shortcuts they come up with a "[2]"
concatenated with the name.

What I do is always use a different account when stating up in a "Safe Mode"
boot.

Thanks, thought of that.
So is this just one of those "that's the way it works" (Functioning as Designed) things?

You can use a seperate login or use a desktop save routing. For a good
and free save routine, go to:

http://www.midiox.com/

and click on "Midi Tools" on the left. D/l and install the "Desktop
Restore" utility. It allows you to save a desktop for each screen
resolution and later restore it.

Sounds like the answer, I'll try it.

Thanks.

Rich;
Thanks!
Works reasonably well with the only (minor) problem that it sticks my taskbar on the
bottom of the screen (I prefer it hidden at the top) and moves the bottom-most icons
upwards (I suppose because of the taskbar relocation).
But, as I said, that's minor compared to what has been aggravating me!

Again, thank you.

Hadn't noticed that, but I prefer the taskbar at the bottom. Do you
have auto-hide enabled?
Again, thank you.

Your welcome.

Yes to Auto-Hide.
Also have the Office toolbar - on the bottom.
May kill that (hardly ever use it) and see how the utility works.
