Safe Mode, keyboard problem

First I had a problem where task manager wouldn't stay open, now when I try to start the computer in safe mode the keyboard (USB) doesn't want to work, therefore I can't use the arrows keys to select safe mode. Can anyone give me help on this. I was trying to go through the steps to remove the three viruses that can cause task manager not to work.
