Safe Hardware removal tool

my system: P4 system with WinXP home edition.

I am going to remove a DVD player drive from my computer and replace
it with a DVD burner. In checking the Win xp Help file to make sure I
do it correctly there is mention of the "Safe hardware removal tool"
in the task bar. I cannot find such an animal.

Questions 1. how do I find the "Safe hardware removal tool"
2. are there any "gotchas" in what I am going to do regarding
replacing a DVD player with a DVD burner?

Hi Lhutch,

The "Safe hardware removal tool" is for disconnecting hardware that is
connected to the system externally. The most common are devices
connected to the system via a USB connection such as a thumb drive or
external hard drive. Is the DVD drive you are removing an external
drive? If no, simply shut the system off and replace the drive using the
instructions that come with the new drive.
