Hi,
I installed windows 2000 server on a machien i built, i just added to
the server the users and their password in to have access to the
server and to the shared folder where sbt resides folder PRO50, BY THE
way the sbt version i am talking here is SBT PRO 5.0I BUILD B708, i
hope you can help me.
Here is what i did i copy the whole folder pro50 from the old winnt
server 4.0 to the new sever win2k server, so the folder is the same
name on the new server, by the way the sever is a CONROE E6600 RUNNING
AT 2.7 GH 2 GIB of memory pc-6400, mirror 1 hd capacity 250 gb sataii,
this machine fly and the nic is 1000 mbps , connected to a 1 gb
switch, so the rest of the worksts are also connected to these
switches, anyway after i have 6 or 7 users connected or after a
certain amount of time running user get this error on the screen

`[error 1705]File syualog is not available[exclusive use], another
user may be reindexing this file or closing the period in an
application that uses this file. when the user has finished using the
file you should be able to continue.

Retry Quit buttoms options

i realized that after 7or 8 users run the application then i got this
error, or may be could be a it looks to me like the workstations lost
the connection, i can still browse the folder thr the explorer or my
computer why do you think this can hapen ? do you think that any
service on the workstation has to be anable since they are now
accessing sbt on a win 2000 server, or maybe another computer was
crashing creating a bottle neck and making the other computers to
loose the connection to the sbt, this is weird, can you please advise
thanks
do you think i have some services not running, this will run ok if i
run it from a windows NT 4.0 SERVER SPK 6, please i need help thanks a
lot

In general, you can't just copy a program from one PC to another and expect
it to work properly. Various Registry settings, DLL files, configuration
files, etc. will be missing. You need to reinstall the software on the new
server after checking with the vendor to be sure it's Windows 2000
compatible.

Hi Richard
I understand you point and you are %100 right but this application is
a visual foxpro application with exe files prg files and dbf files,
once before i had a problem on the server where this was installed by
the way a win nt 4. 0 server spk 6 and the hd had problem then i have
backup of the whole foder where all files were located, so then i
restored it to another storage server nt 4 sever box and i just mapped
the users to that server and shared folder and w/o a problem they were
able to work with it , mayve cause it ws an NT BOX SERVER too, now the
new server where i copied is a win 2000 server, no AD, no file server
setup just copied the whole folder and shared it and mapped users to
it, but the thing is that after 10 user are running this application
when a new one open the application is when he got the eror i
mentioned before is like it is no capable to share the application
correctly or the latency or packets get weak i don't know or maybe win
2k server won't work as win nt 4.0, so probably i will need to install
onn the server the application from the cd and then after is installed
copy over the folder created the same folder from the win nt 4.0 serve
with the whole data updated, cause if i install on win2k s the whole
application this will be just the application and no data cause all
databases are empty and then i should overwrite the folder fromm th nt
server but maybe this will install on win 2k some files that the copy
did not took over, what do you think
Thanks
Ernesto

That's the important info here.

Windows 2000 only allows 10 user connections. But, you had said you
installed Win 2K Server, which should allow more.

I am no Win2K expert though...maybe something to do with NOT being a
Domain w/AD.

Google to find more info now that you know what you are looking for.
