Running Rules Changes The Dates Of My Messages

I just got a new computer and installed Outlook 2003 on it, I exported my
contacts and calandar and other Personal folder settings but not my email
because I use IMAP. I imported these things to my new computer but when I set
up my IMAP account and added a rule to move certain messages to a new IMAP
folder and then chose to run it on all the mail currently in the inbox it
changed every piece of mail to the current date and time, it did not change
them on the server but only on my desktop. I have mail dating back to 2003
and would like to filter it into folders but am unable to because of Outlook
2003 changing the dates. Any suggestions? I have all the office updates and
windows updates and am running XP Pro on a domain.

Thank you.

Importing changes dates. To keep the original dates, don't import. Use
File>Open>Outlook Data File.

I did not import any mail, just contacts and other things from my personal
folder, my IMAP mail is another .pst file all together, do you mean to say
that even just importing my personal folder would affect mail I had not yet
downloaded yet in another folder and if so is there a way to undo my import?

Thank you

Importing a PST loses information from Calendar and Contact entries, so it's
always better to use File>Open instead, but if you do import, it shouldn't
affect your IMAP data store and neither should running rules, depending on
what the rules do. For example, I just created a rule to move a copy of
messages from an IMAP store folder to a PST folder and ran it. Neither the
modified date nor the receive date of either the original message or the
copy were changed in any way.

Thank you for the info, does anyone else have any idea what could be causing
my rules to change the date of all messages in the inbox?

What do your rules do?

I had only created one so far because it always screwed up the dates
immediatly but it took mail from staples and put it in an IMAP .newsletter
folder. When I chose to run the rule on the inbox at the completion of
creating it I can see it scroll through all the messages very quickly and
change them to the current date and time as it goes by them. I may uninstall
and reinstall today to see if that does anything. Is there anyway to remove
Outlook completely so none of the old settings are left over?

Thanks.

So the "Received" date is the one changing?

Uninstalling and then creating a new mail profile when you reinstall should
work.
