Running Japanese programs on Windows XP Pro sp2 (eng.)

One of my big pushes for getting a new computer was that I was told I
would be able to fully run most Japanese programs, and input Japanese
into most programs. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck doing either
of those. I've got the East Asian char sets installed and everything,
I've got the language bar and everything but when I try to enter
Japanese text into WinMX (for example), it comes out as just question
marks.

I have been able to run java applets in Japanese which was one thing I
wasn't able to do on Win98se, but (especially since I'll be going to
Japan in april) I'd like to be able to run a few more full programs in
Japanese.

I would really appreciate any kind of advice anybody could give me.

Thank you,
Christopher Stetson

You would need a Japanese version of Windows XP in order
to install and run Japanese programs and applications.

That is not correct. Windows XP in any UI language will run any programs
written for any language on Windows XP.

It probably means that WinMX is not enabled for East Asian or Unicode
character sets. Contact its developers.
