This is probably more of an IIS issue but any ideas
welcome. I created a link on a page that points to an
executable. When I preview the link I get a dialog box
saying do I want to run it or download it.
When I upload the file to the server and test it I get
a "page cannot be found." Even when I go to the server
locally and click the link I get the page cannot be
found.
Thanks for the help.

IIS on it.

You uploaded the .exe file as well, right? You should also check with your
web host provider to make sure that they haven't restricted your account in
a way that prevent your being able to link to exe files. ReadyHosting, for
one does restrict the permissions to prevent this, however, if you submit a
trobule ticket with them, they will set permissions on the folder you
specify to allow download of .exe files on your account.

You can't run an executable in a browser window.
It will always prompt you to download as this is a
browser security "default."
