Hi,

It appears to be part of backweb, and unnecessaary background application
often included by many system manufacturers. Click start/run and type
msconfig, then click ok. Go to the startup tab and uncheck the line that
loads it.

I am either an idiot or this thing is really out to get me. I tried your
suggestion but then my computer crashed yet when I rechecked it ,suddenly it
was functional again. I feel like it has my HD by it's short and curlies and
refuses to be extracted. I have contacted f-secure,no-one has responded as of
yet. I am at the point where I am considering wiping the HD and re-installing
or buying a sledgehammer. I have been without an anti-virus since this all
began . I am getting really desperate here . Please let me know something,
and thank you Rick, for responding so quickly.

Hi,

There may be an additional application that is relying on backweb, and it
crashes when the underlying support is disabled. Can you post the startup
registry entries under these keys please:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

(please ask if you need directions on how)

Hi,

To do this, start/run regedit, expand the branches to each key (do this one
at a time). Click on the key, then on file/export. Give it any name, then
save to the desktop. Once you have saved all keys, close the registry
editor.

Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose edit, it should
open in notepad. Click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a response to this
post and click in the message text area. Hit ctrl+v to paste the contents.
Repeat for the other saved keys, then send the post for examination.
