Anyone there who can help , please advice. When trying to install
applications on a windows xp sp2 pc, the install hangs, does not repsond. I
suspect the file Rundll32 is either corrupt or damaged. Question is, how do i
go about fixing it. I have never had this happen, now it has, someone shed
some light on what i need to do

How do you know that Rundll32 is corrupted?
If it is indeed corrupted perhaps running the system file checker will
correct it.

I dont know. When I tried to install an application my wife uses for school
reports it said it could run setup due to a problem with rundll32. I thought
that was just a one off, but i tried to install SQL Server Enterprise Edition
from my learning, but the setup just hung in the background. Waited for 5
mins nothing happened and that is when i then realised that the file rundll32
may be corrupt or damaged.

Running the SFC should replace it with a fresh copy.

The SFC did not work. I am going to try MSCONFIG today or this weekend and
then see if that works. Otherwise will need to do a repair install.
