Hi,

I got some virus into my system, when Avast found the virus, it deleted few
system files (i gave permission - after knowing as virus, there is no need of
having those).
After i restart the system i am getting error messgae as "Rundll file
missing".
Can anyone (From Microsoft) can help me in getting this file to my system?
unfortunatley i don't have my XP cd with me!! so please provide me the file
to download.

Thanks in advance!!!

rundll.exe is used to call methods from within .dll files. Some HIPS
(host intrusion protection scheme) programs are dumb in that they only
control what can load based solely on the file, not on the parameters
specified on the call to execute the command. Some are smart enough to
record the entire command line (i.e., with parameters) so when the user
says to run *that* command that some other "rundll.exe <otherparms>" is
allowed to run without a prompt to the user. Some anti-virus programs
are just as stupid as the dumb HIPS that doesn't look at the parameters.
Of course, it is possible the rundll.exe file itself got infected or
replaced with an infected file.

Try running "sfc /scannow" to repair the system files. Have your
install CD ready as it may need to rebuild the dllcache folder with
files retrieved from the CD.

Can you make it past the error message and start Windows? If so, you
just need to remove the reference to the file in the registry.

Can you star Windows in Safe Mode?

I'm having the same problem. I downloaded the AVG antivirus. Now, when
WindowsXP starts, I have two files that come up and says, The specified
module could not be found. "error loading C\windows system32\ lbavwhbk.dll.
The other one is, soiabhlj.dll.
I do not have the CD for this machine. I think it's a pirate. What can I do
to fix this problem?
Thank you.

It's possible some malware was deleted by your a/v software, but the
reference to the file was not removed from the registry.

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the file into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and
when located, delete the reference to the file. Press F3 to continue
the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

You could click Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, click OK, click the StartUp
tab, and deselect the item(s). When you restart the computer, you will
be warned that you're running in the Diagnostic mode; click to not alert
you again, and OK out. You won't see the message again. But I think
it's best to just remove the references from the registry.

Thank you, that fixed that problem. This is the second time you guys have
helped me out. I appreciate that very much.
Thanks again.
