Google for runtime error 53 windows XP logon gives this one entry that
suggests it was caused by malware. The person ran HiJackthis and posted
the log to one of th specialty forums for it.
I would run adware/spyware checking programs first. If those don't fix
it then run HiJackThis and post the log to one of the speciality forums,
_NOT_ this one:
Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.
